Doing a little house cleaning, I stumbled upon this folder of images shot in June of 2013 at Watkins Glen. I was there shooting the 2013 TransAm Championships. The series was sharing the track that weekend with the Vintage Auto Racing Association (VARA). The VARA series features quite an assortment of classes and race cars, all providing some interesting eye candy both on and off the track.
I think what added to the setting was the old style garages that populate the Watkins Glen paddock. To stroll through watching work being done to old GTP and Formula cars is like catnip for the eyes. And for me, I saw only black and white. Armed with my trusty Leica M9, I enjoyed the rare opportunity to walk around and shoot for no other reason than the pure pleasure of shooting.
There are a few on-track images as well… those were shot with my typical trackside Canon kit… but once again, the combination of historic cars and the legendary Glen were perfect to shoot in black and white.
