For me, every photo I take could potentially be important. Even when it's just for ME. I don't say that as "hey, my photos are great," but as a professional photographer, you’re rarely out there just grabbing snapshots. As a pro photographer, you accumulate a set of skills that will in the very least increase the opportunity for a photo to be exceptional. So your equipment needs to be up to the task. But I'm not making my way through life with 10lbs. of DSLR hanging around my neck.
Over the years, sometimes I’ve only had a smartphone handy, I’d witness a great scene or grab a quick photo, only to discover I have a shot that I'd like to use or share... and I can't because it's a blah smartphone, crunchy-like file. The minute it’s opened in an editor, it's a lossy mess that might as well be printed on cheese clothe.
That's what is cool about the DxO One. The files rival ANY camera I own. Yeah.. okay, it doesn't have that magic aura of my Leica M with 35mm Summicron, but I'll put it up against any of my Canon's files all day long.
Knowing my only limitation is the fixed 32mm lens, which I can work around... I'm a photographer for goodness sake, LOL - I can trust that if /when I get an amazing opportunity... the DxO One camera can produce equally amazing results. The camera’s features provide me with the control to make creative decisions and freedom to tell the story as I see it. I’m in control.
Now, as DxO begins to blossom with built in features delivered through firmware upgrades and more recently, a suite of new accessories, it's become a tool that promotes a proactive and user-involved creative thought process. Now we are in the realm of using it to do things differently. Seriously, just the fact that it swivels when connected to the phone... (don’t forget that glorious retina display for a viewfinder) has inspired a constant and simpleincentive to push for a different point of view. I don't bend so easy anymore LOL!
And, now... with the WiFi capability, new add on accessories and the outdoor shell... you have license to go nuts. You find yourself sitting there going... “man, where can I stick this thing.” Trust me, creatively, your head will be spinning.
I thought it was cool earlier this year when I shot car-to-car with it at Daytona Int'l Speedway... and it was. But now, with WiFi? Forget about it! And remember, you've got a file that's a whopping 5500 pixels across. You've got an f/1.8 aperture... you've go full control over every aspect of the camera... and you've got infinite focal points via touch screen. Show me a camera that will allow you selective focus out to the VERY edge of the frame.... with a touch of your finger. And it's truly "what you see is what you get" on your iPhone or iPad’s retina display.
This camera is a blast... if you're not laughing when you're taking the photo... you'll certainly be laughing when you see the reaction of people looking at the results. It's awesome.
