With no on-track activity scheduled today at Lime Rock, I took a side trip over to Mystic and made a visit to Mystic Seaport. I had originally planned on taking the train into New York City, but given the unpredictable weather, I didn't want to get trapped in the rain relying on train schedules to get back. Next time.
If you're unfamiliar with Mystic, it is home to the Mystic Aquarium and Mystic Seaport. What is fascinating about the seaport is it is an actual working museum. As you walk around, people are hard at work restoring the ships and boats using original working methods and techniques. It's an amazing place.
Some may recall the movie, Mystic Pizza. It is best known as Julia Roberts' first major acting role. While the movie was named after Mystic Pizza which is located in Mystic, actual filming took place elsewhere.
Steven Spielberg also shot various scenes for the film Amistad at Mystic Seaport.
So here is gallery of my day walking around Mystic and the Seaport. The weather held out and I really enjoyed the day. If you get up that way, do yourself a favor and pay a visit to Mystic.
Images were all shot with a Leica M9 digital rangefinder using the vintage black and white in-camera setting. I switched back and forth between a 35mm Summicron and 90mm Summarit. All post processing was done using Appple's Aperture software.
